Roadrunner

Message from Mrs. Stamer

Hello Roadrunners -

As we continue to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month here at Forest Road, I would like to share a list of upcoming widely recognized awareness months for a specific group or culture. These monthly recognition efforts are a single prong in our multi-pronged approach to diversity, equity and inclusion at District 102. We know that our efforts must go beyond monthly recognition, and will be embedded in lessons and experiences throughout the year.

  • October - Celebrating Differences - Disability Awareness

  • November - Native American Heritage Month

  • December & January - Winter Holidays! Festivals and Celebrations of Light

  • February - Black History Month

  • March - Women History Month

  • April - Arab American Heritage Month

  • May - Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month / Jewish American Heritage Month

We had some fun things going on at Forest Road this week. Fourth Grade visited our science center and we were able to capture some fun pictures (see below). Our PTO also hosted our annual "3rd Grade Bike Rodeo". Below are some pictures of that also.

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend. It's supposed to be beautiful out!

Message from Mr. Ontiveros

Happy Friday Roadrunner Families,

Our lunch time extra-curricular activities at Forest Road are starting to take shape. It’s a great sight to see as students are getting out to participate in the running club as well as our intramurals.  A special Roadrunner THANK YOU goes out to the parents and teachers who supervise these activities. Without your time and effort, these programs would not exist.

Thinking about lunch inside the building, we're asking for your assistance in reminding our students the importance of maintaining a safe, clean environment when in the lunchroom. We need all of our students to work as a team when it comes to throwing away their trash and cleaning up messes and spills promptly. This helps our custodians as they prepare the room for the PE classes that follow. It also highlights the idea that everyone plays a key role in making Forest Road a great place to be.

Have a great weekend everyone!

CHORUS

The Forest Road Chorus is open to all students in grades 5-6. Rehearsals are split between 5th and 6th grade, and each grade-level Chorus practices once a week: 6th Grade on Tuesday and 5th Grade on Wednesday. Both groups practice during Lunch Recess.

Some musical skills we practice in Chorus include, but are not limited to, vocal warmup techniques, vocal tone production and projection, singing vocal exercises, singing harmonized exercises, music score sight-reading, and learning new repertoire.

The Forest Road Chorus performs at all school concerts (usually 3 concerts) and will sometimes perform outside of school as opportunities arise.
