Celebrate Black History Month with us! Take a moment to engage with the powerful videos below alongside your children. Let's join forces, both at home and in school, to shine a spotlight on the remarkable contributions of Black individuals to our nation. The first video is tailored for younger students, while the second video is better suited for older students.

The 5th grade students helped Forest Road celebrate the beginning of Black History Month by putting together a bulletin board featuring a spotlight on many important members of the Black community. Students worked in groups to choose their featured person, research their life and put together a poster to teach other students in the building about how and why they are important. Through their research students focused not only on the life of the person but on their global connection, challenges they faced, talent, intelligence, passions, and successes.
Check out our new book display in the LRC. The students have already shown great excitement for the books and have been eager to check them out. Thank you to Ms. Kean for putting this together for our students.

Safe School Tip Line
In our continuing effort to ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment, District 102 provides each school with an online Safe School Tip Line found on the District and School websites. The Tip Line can be found on a tab located on the District or School homepage. Reports made to the tip line are reviewed and addressed during official school hours, typically within 24 hours of notification. Information provided in the tip line is kept confidential and handled on a case-by-case basis.

STEM EXPO 2024

Calling all student scientists, engineers, and inventors! STEM EXPO 2024 is coming soon
Saturday, March 2nd, 2024
On March 2nd, STEM EXPO will showcase the talents of District 102 students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and creative Making. STEM EXPO provides an egg-cellent opportunity for students from kindergarten–6th grade to explore a science topic of their choice. We encourage you to use your creative and inventive skills to create a project at home and share what you learned with other students, families, and teachers at EXPO. Projects range in complexity from simple observations to full experiments, inventions or technology projects.
Who: All students grades K–6
When: Saturday, March 2, 2024 9:00 am–Noon
Set-up is Friday, March 1 4:00–5:30 pm
Where: Forest Road School Gym, 901 N Forest Road, LaGrange Park

All participants will receive a participation certificate and this year’s STEM EXPO t-shirt. Register on or before Feb 17th to be guaranteed your t-shirt size. Exhibits will not be judged; students/teams will be assigned a 1/2 hour time period when they will be required to be at their table to answer questions and explain their project to an EXPO Official.

Forest Road offers two different before and after school programs. Although they run independently from us, they are serviced here in our school. Below is the contact information for BASE and Right At School:

Right at School and BASE drop off security reminder:
Parents when you drop off your child off at Right at School or BASE and for some reason need to walk your child into the building, please then exit the building immediately after dropping off. Please do not take your child to the classroom or go to the classrooms on your own to drop off or pick anything up. I appreciate your attention to this.

Gals and Pals Dance
It's time to parTAY! Forest Road girls, grab a special (adult) pal in your life and come join us for an evening of music, dancing, pizza, sweets, and fun. Come dressed as your favorite Taylor Swift Era and make the whole room shimmer. Suggested ticket price will be $25 per couple and $5 each additional child. This is not a drop off event.

Multicultural Night
Save the Date! Thursday, April 18th from 6p-7:30p for Multicultural Night at Forest Road
Multicultural Night is where school families are invited to share elements of their culture or ethnicity with other members of the school community. It will take place in the Forest Road gym, where families will have a table to display clothing, food items, pictures, maps, instruments, books- anything that they would like to display that highlights their culture or ethnicity. As many of us get together to celebrate the holidays with our families and friends, it may be a good opportunity to gather something to share at Multicultural Night!
