In our classrooms, students participate in a Writing Workshop that encourages creativity, choice, and authentic writing experiences. Throughout the week, students have opportunities to write on topics of their choice, allowing them to explore their own ideas and interests. They also respond to prompts with specific guidelines, helping them develop skills within structured settings. Currently, most students are focusing on narrative and fictional writing in their ELA classes, where they build storytelling skills and practice crafting engaging narratives. As part of their literacy development, students also discuss and write about what they’re reading, which strengthens comprehension and analytical thinking.
Supporting writing at home can further enhance your child’s skills! Encouraging them to create their own stories, make presentations on topics they’re passionate about, or write about books they’ve read helps reinforce what they are learning. Engaging in conversations about reading, sharing stories orally, and exposing them to new vocabulary all contribute to their growth as writers and readers. These activities not only build writing skills but also foster a love for storytelling and language, supporting their journey as young authors and thinkers.
Student Council is hosting its annual food drive to help the Westchester Food Pantry make Thanksgiving Baskets for those in need. As always, the classroom with the most items wins a prize.
