Message from Mrs. Stamer & Mr. Ontiveros

It was a busy week at Forest Road. Here are a few highlights:

BMX Assembly

A huge thank you to the PTO. Today we had a very exciting, motivating and encouraging assembly by Guiness World Record holder BMX rider, Matt Wilhelm.

Mr. Wilhelm did many amazing bike tricks and also shared some important messages. He encouraged kids to never give up, he motivated them to keep practicing and that hard work pays off. He also shared an important message about standing up for others and being kind.

Career Day

Forest Road hosted "Career Day" for our 5th and 6th grade students. We had many different community members come and share about their careers. This opportunity allows students to see the many different careers that are out there and gives them some encouragement to keep giving their all at school.

SCOTY Award Recipient

Last year District 102 started nominating and awarding students from each of the elementary schools and Park Middle school the SCOTY (School Citizen of the Year) award. This award is given to a student who shows integrity, great school citizenship who others want to emulate, respects all, promotes positivity and is a good role model. We take great pleasure in announcing Brooks Pelletier as the distinguished recipient of this award.

Teachers & Staff had a "Nacho Average Friday"

The Forest Road teachers and staff also had a fun filled Friday today celebrating National Tortilla Chip Day (observed yearly on Feb. 24th). Mrs. Stamer and Mr. Ontiveros provided the meats and staff provided the toppings. Yummy! A good time was shared by all.

Book Clubs

This year in grades 3-6, students will participate in book clubs.  Book clubs empower students with the opportunity to have choice in what they are reading in order to deepen their understanding and application of their reading skills and strategies.  Students reading the same books can have small group discussions based on their book's specific plot. All titles, however, are based around a common theme so there can be whole class discussions focused around the commonalities found within all the books.  (see themes and book choices here)  Students are given tools and structures to organize themselves as a group to make decisions around how many pages/chapters they will read for each discussion time and also what they will bring to the discussion.  6th graders started their book clubs this week, so please enjoy some pictures of their process.

5Essentials Survery Reminder

We are at 19%. Thank you to those that have taken a moment to complete the survey. Although only 20% is required to receive data, we are hopeful that Forest Road can get to at least 30%! This would give us the desired data to help make improvements to our school.

You can access survey and information HERE.

Parking Reminders

Please do not park in the Barnsdale School parking lot for drop-off, pick-up, and when dropping off items during the day. Thank you!

Safe School Tip Line

In our continuing effort to ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment, District 102 provides each school with an online Safe School Tip Line found on the District and School websites. The Tip Line can be found on a tab located on the District or School homepage.  Reports made to the tip line are reviewed and addressed during official school hours, typically within 24 hours of notification.  Information provided in the tip line is kept confidential and handled on a case-by-case basis.

Multicultural Night

Save the Date! Thursday, April 18th from 6p-7:30p for Multicultural Night at Forest Road

Multicultural Night is where school families are invited to share elements of their culture or ethnicity with other members of the school community.  It will take place in the Forest Road gym, where families will have a table to display clothing, food items, pictures, maps, instruments, books- anything that they would like to display that highlights their culture or ethnicity.  As many of us get together to celebrate the holidays with our families and friends, it may be a good opportunity to gather something to share at Multicultural Night!
