Programs at Barnsdale
District 102 Preschool Programs
District 102 offers an inclusive preschool program available to children residing in the District 102 boundaries. The early childhood program utilizes research-based curriculum and developmentally appropriate methodologies to teach children ages 3-5 years. Each preschool classroom is taught by a certified early childhood teacher and supported by instructional aides. Classes are in session five days per week. Mornings from 8:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. or afternoons from 12:15 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. Transportation is the family's responsibility.
Children must be at least 3 years old by September 1st of the school year to be enrolled in the preschool program at the start of the year. There are limited spots available for all classes. Priority will be given to those currently enrolled in the preschool program and then those who complete enrollment each spring. If spots are available during the year, students may join when they turn 3 years old.
Tuition is $2,700 annually. We do have a few tuition-free spots to provide high-quality educational experiences for children who are determined to be at risk for academic struggles. Risk factors include economic disadvantages, English language learners, and/or family dynamic factors. We are happy to screen for developmental risk factors as well, such as speech delays or fine motor skills.

The Multicultural Kindergarten Classroom
What is a multicultural classroom?
A multicultural classroom refers to teaching that incorporates the history, stories, values, beliefs, and perspectives of people from different cultural backgrounds. A multicultural classroom is for all students, regardless of culture. A multicultural classroom teaches acceptance and creates a warm welcoming learning environment for all students.
Why is a multicultural classroom important?
A multicultural classroom will include culturally responsive teaching. The primary goal of culturally responsive teaching is to help all students become respectful of a variety of cultures and people that they’ll interact within our ever-growing world. We will be reading a variety of multicultural high-quality texts. We will be teaching students about multicultural role models. This serves as an effective method for demonstrating that people of all genders, ethnicities, and appearances can have a positive influence on the world and deserve to be respected and emulated.
The goals of multicultural education include:
Creating a safe, accepting, and successful learning environment for all
Increasing awareness of global issues
Strengthening cultural consciousness
Strengthening intercultural awareness
Teaching students that there are multiple historical perspectives
Encouraging critical thinking
Preventing prejudice and discrimination
All students are welcome to join our multicultural classroom. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Barnsdale Road School at (708) 482-3003.
